Eclectic is an interesting word

Eclectic seems to be a high brow word for what would be called junk in the low rent part of town.

This domain used to represent a very nice antique shop and restaurant in Singapore.  It was a place where everything on which the food was served, tables, chairs, plates, etc. was actually for sale.  From the pictures I found on the Waybank machine it was a very elegant place.  Something happened, as it often does in the restaurant business, and they let the name expire.

Eclectic seemed to be a nice fit with our home.  We were the "kids" with the most room so we ended up with my grandparents stuff, my parents stuff, my wifes grandparents stuff, her parents stuff and then we proceded to add our own; not to mention all the leftovers of raising three children of our own.  Sometimes the whole house feels like a giant eclectic attic.

We tried to exercise some discretion in what we accumulated and the result was Kanawha glass and Gerold porcelain collections.  We have also had a lot of fun with German wood items from the Erzgebirge.  When my parents had to break up housekeeping there was no choice but to follow the Minnesota tradition of having a household auction where everything got sold.  I remember the total came to $3,000 and the auction fees came out of that.  We hope to do better than that, and spare our children the hassle, by liquidating things gradually on Ebay.  The Eclectic Attic may become a going concern when we get to work on that.

As a way to put some quick content on the site I thought it would be interesting to define the term "Eclectic" by listing the Ebay auctions which use the word in their title.  The results are below and the items are ... eclectic
